Hi,
we are the Schrama family, made up of Zinhle (South-African), Erik (Dutchman), Owethu and Thomas (as well as about 15 chickens ...)
For over 16 years now, we have lived in various parts of Europe - first in The Netherlands, then about 15 years in Belgium.
However, because of the increased cost of living in Europe, as well as the increased tension in this part of the world, we have decided to leave Europe and return to Zinhle's home: South Africa.
Life in Europe has simply become too expensive. Food, water, electricity, taxes, transportation, and even more taxes ... People in Europe are being priced out of life. Even though 5 years ago we bought a ruinous old house in Belgium and with a lot of hard work (and the occassional sawing into my own fingers) transformed it into a cosy little farmhouse, with an abundant garden (which gives us pumpkins, apples, pears, cherries, cauliflower, lots of onions and garlic, and even fijoas, whatever they are, and much more) we have decided to sell our home and move back to South Africa (see our current home here).
After a long search, we came across a 10 hectare plot of land in the middle of South Africa´s Eastern Cape province, located right in the middle of a beautiful valley, but not too far away from the nearest town - East London - which offers a perfect balance between an easy connection with the outside world (such as the East London's local airport) and the ability to get away from it all and live our own lives on our own little mountain.
Our plan is to build our new home here, with our own hands. This will be an independent, self-sufficient and 100% off-grid farmstead, with the surety that our food will be grown on our own land and has not been injected with pesticides, vaxxes, GMOs and other stuff that you don't want in your food. Of course the farmstead hasn't been built yet (we've only just secured the land), but as soon as we've raised our first building, we also want to offer other people the same chance to escape, both for the long term, but also if you just want to take a break, by establishing B&B and nature camping facilities, but also by building a community of likeminded, indedendent people on and around our land.
If you like to help us to make it happen, we can absolutely use your help, please contact us through the form below, you can also join our newsletter, and don't forget to follow us on our South African farmstead project's channels.
For now, I will continue to update this page, while in the meantime we're preparing for our move to South Africa (while at the same time continuing our struggle to survive in the dystopia that is Europe ...). Stay tuned for more!
A personal note:
Did you know that I'm also actively trying to fight the liberalization of GMOs and other bad ecological practices in Europe by making full use of my democratic rights as a deeply concerned citizen? And that through my work (which is essentially sticking my nose where policy makers don't want it to goI have been acknowledged as a special rapporteur on GMOs by the EP. Because nature and healthy food is important! You can read more about my work for healthy food and healty ingredients here.
FYI: ONLY We do NOT share any other personal information!
